Technically, it's a 'mini-zerk' - - standard grease gun does not fit it (hence the supplied syringe):

that's wild. at first i was a little perplexed, but the more i thought about it, the more it makes sense. i mean, not many people are pulling the 303 out on local trails. in fact, i'm not sure i've ever seen one outside of a race setting. with the whole factory team around, a few dabs of grease after each run seems insignificant.

I have the bike in question after many years of no suspension hard tails etc
The high front end on my DH, levels me out a little. So I'm riding down hill a little more normally missing some of that pitch-over-the-handlebars sensation with the lower front end.
I have to lean a little further forward going uphill and there may be one or two places where I'll have to walk. But overall, I'm going much faster downhill so having the weight a little further back on my DH is great.
Am I using the bike to absorb more impact, per OP? Probably. Bike does make rocks fly.

The truth.

I don't know, but the spelling of supsension has definitely changed.
Yeah, and now, instead of replacing a $5 wheel bearing, you get to spend $100 on a "hub assembly", which will wear out again because you can't repack it.
