2006 Marin Eldridge Grade
I am looking for some of your thoughts in regards the the Marin Eldridge Grade Columbus. I am in the process of traing for a marathon and have some problems with my Plantars Fascia (sp? foot issue). My trainer told me to ride a bike for a while and I ran across this bike. I know nothing about bikes, but I know I don't want totally cheep. It seems to be a good step above some of the entry level bikes I have tested. Anyway here it is. https://marinbikes.com/bicycles_2006/..._columbus.html
Oh yah, I like the mountain bike vs road because I feel that I at least have the option to do either. Who knows maybe I end up with a road bike also some day. We'll see if it sticks.

That's a pretty good bike to start with. Good mix of components, reputable company, good frame material. I had considered one for a while, but decided that the geometry didn't fit me too well (standove height too high). You didn't mention whether this will be a purchase from a LBS or on-line. If you read a couple of other "should I buy this bike" posts, you'll notice a pretty strong feeling regarding newbies and online purchases.
