So, I'm looking to upgrade from...
My stumpjumper fsr to something with 6 inches of travel. I wanted to get a nomad, but my friends and LBS say not to, there junk. Well, not so much junk, but with the rear suspension designed the way it is, the bearings wear out like no ones business. I thought these were good bikes, and I liked how they're just as good going up ans going down. Anybody got one or know anything about them? any help would be appreciated.

what was told to me, was that because of the amount of moving parts in the suspension, the bearings go, alot more than they should. I was just seeing if this was true or not

Nearly every bike is assembled with standard industrial cartridge bearings. I can't answer for Santa Cruz specifically but the ones on my Yeti AS-X's linkage were nothing special. But they lasted a season-and-a-half of racing DH in some pretty gritty conditions before the seals gave up the ghost and fried the bearings.
It was really no big deal; I went to a local industrial bearing supply and bought a better grade set for under $30 and was on my merry way. I would not sweat the bearing deal on a Nomad enough to make me shy away from getting one.
