In 3 days on my first MTB, I have received the following:
4 flats (17 punctures, stupid goats head things)
2 crashes
1 bruised ribcage
1 awesome scrape
1 awesome bruise
1 dislocated shoulder (which I popped back into position myself)
innumerable sore upper body muscles
several self-taught lessons about how (not) to ride
It's totally worth it.

Yeah, luckily I figured out exactly where they came from the second time (2 incidents of 2 flats each).
This goats head stuff likes to grow in rocky/weedy areas. On the way to the river trails, I have to cross over some railroad tracks , and last time I crossed, I looked around and saw that these plants are just everywhere. I rolled my bike instead of riding it last time, and still got a couple of them (though they didn't puncture the tires, so I pulled them out right away). Form now on, I'm just carrying my bike over that 100 feet.

Heh, one saturday, my wife and I, and our 3 kids took our bikes to the park to let the kids ride around. Five bikes, 10 flat tires within about a minute of venturing off the paved trail. Each tire had almost a dozen goat heads each. I got the job of fixing them. The LBS owner didn't believe me when I told him I needed 10 tubes.

I could swear Pinnacle made a supplement from this stuff called Horny Goat Weed. Tribulus Terrestis. It was supposed to turn into Testosterone once ingested. I'll have to dig up some old Muscle and Fitness magazines to check for sure but the scientific name of the plant sure looks like the stuff that was in this crap. They had great ads though, always some fine half naked lady lounging around.
