New Stuff coming out, whatcha getting?

The new model year is upon us. Lots of new products being released, new bikes, new suspension designs, and a lot of new accessories/components.

What is on everyone's wish list:

Me, I've pretty much got my mtn bike the way I want it. I think I'll probably break down and try out some new(different) tires. Haven't decided on which ones yet. Either some new WTB, some Maxxis or some Intense.

I've been iching to buy a new fork. No real reason, except desire for something better and new. I've seen some closeout deals on some nice forks, but still kinda sitting on the fence. I'm holding out for a Z1 with a QR-20. I've seen the SC Shivers, and I almost decided to get one of those, but I've heard mixed reviews about them.

I may also upgrade my front disc to an 8" rotor. I also kinda torn with this, since the 6" is all I need for around here.

I did just buy a new bike. However, it's for my son. It's a GT Mini, and it'll probably be his Christmas present. He's just recently been riding his tricycle with abondon, and will be ready for the bicycle around then. Of course, I spent WAY more than I was planning, but he is my only son, and will probably be my only child (with the way things are looking with my wife's health).

What does everyone else want, or what are you planning on getting?

My winter plans are as follows:
1) new crank set, my old Alivio set is all bent up thus a great excuse to upgrade. I'm thinking of getting the new Raceface Evolve set depending on how it works and how much. If it turns out to be too much or not up to RF standards I'll likely go with the old Prodigy set (now called the Ride I belive).
2) new tires, I think my stock Maxxis Mofo XC's we really holding my speed back. I might go with a set of 1.9 Nokian Boallzabeena's (sp?) with some lightweight tubes.
3) new brake pads, stock shimano = crap. Might upgrade the calipers to SD5's as well.

If I fall into a lot of cash I'd like a 105mm MX Comp ETA combined with a low rise Deus stem and RF straight bar to bring the front back down from the 25mm suspension rise.

Chi 08-28-03 01:11 PM

I NEED a new crankset with a bottom bracket that actually fits my chainline (just found out my chainline's wrong). That'll set me back a couple of hundred, coz I'm thinkin about getting the RF Turbine LP or the FSA Carbon Pro cranks.

I'm also looking for a better fork, but not new ... anyone selling a RS SID? ;)

Maelstrom 08-28-03 01:35 PM

I have so much. At this point I am making a decision between buying a full mtb or buying a frame and building it up. If I buy the full mtbit wll be cheaper and I can keep both bikes mobile. If I buy the frame I would strip some parts of my current rig and build up the squishy right away leaving me with a carcus for a ht.

Tough decision but I am leaning towards buying the full rig and having both and just upgrading some key parts. 2004 Kona Stinky is the bike and I will dump that fork in a second. Other than that a few other components. Definately need new tires, another seatpost and wouldn't mind a high quality rear hub to build the dually on. I wouldn't mind the z150 but it is a little expensive so I may not be able to pull it off.

I am also going to try and dump shimano if x.7 is available up here. Currently I can only order out of town and I can't risk doing that with parts the shops in town will charge a fortune to fix.

you need a nothing I got to pay off everythin I just got option:) but I am looking at new winter gear (clothes) and some bike bags for the touring bike.

riderx 08-28-03 01:52 PM

What am I getting? Whatever breaks next!

I like things just the way they are, no need to blow my money just to get the next new thing.

math2p14 08-28-03 02:35 PM

Any info on those Raceface Evolve cranks**********? It seems that i cant find anything online.

mindbogger 08-28-03 03:34 PM

I am just waiting for the new forks to come in so i can pick up a good deal for a 03 RS Duke u -turn

Chi 08-28-03 04:16 PM

Those U-Turn forks are quite heavy, IMO.

dirtbikedude 08-28-03 04:36 PM

Let us see ....

I need to get a new road bike to start my endurance training again and I am going to get the new Z150 for my Stinky and I need a new helmet since I have cracked all 3 of my current ones.

I definitly need new clothes, riding and for the gym. Everything I have now is torn or worn to the point that I might not as well wear anything.:D

KleinMp99 08-28-03 04:40 PM

I said new complete bike (or 2), new wheels (maybe some xtr wheels for the instinct if I dont sell it), probably a new helmet since mine has quite a few years on it, definately new clothing, and a new rack.

khuon 08-28-03 04:54 PM

I've been thinking about new wheels (CK hubs... still thinking about rims) but honestly I really don't need them. Half the time I'm trying to talk myself into getting them (easy part) and the other time I'm trying to talk myself out (hard part unless I look at my bank account). Barring any crashes and resulting breakages, I probably don't need anything right now except more skill and stronger legs. :D

B1105 08-28-03 07:19 PM

Im got my SRAm X.9 shifters/derraileur yesterday. Next thing is wheels.

PeterG1185 08-28-03 07:24 PM

I NEED a new rear derailuer big time. Will go for XTR but dont know if i want to go rapid rise or not. Other than that my bike is perfect for my needs and have upgraded everything i intended to origionally and it really is perfect for me.

The set up:

Frame: 02' Stumpjumper FSR XC Comp
Fork: Fox Float RL(came stock:D )
Rear Shock: Cane Creek AD-12
Brakes: Hope Mini
Wheels: Mavic X221 w/ XT Hubs
Stem: Stock specialized
Handlebar: Easton EA-70 flat
Seatpost: Thompson
Saddle: WTB Laser-V
Cranks: LX
Front derailuer: LX
BB: XT
Cassette:???
Rear Derailuer: XTR
Chain: XTR

Jim311 08-28-03 07:29 PM

Practically everything on that list. I'm going to buy some body armor, a new full face helmet, and I'm going to build up a big tough ass hardtail for urban riding. Probably a Snipes frame, but I'm not really sure.

My XC bike needs a new BB and some brake pads, too.

Maelstrom 08-28-03 07:41 PM

Snipes = good! :)

Dannihilator 08-28-03 07:57 PM

New everything except for bike.

drtjumper_17 08-28-03 08:06 PM

i need to finish my hardtail.I stripped parts from perevious bikes. Gotta work my ass off, but heres the plan

Fsa pig dh
atomlab aircorp stem
Evil Srs Urban chainguide
Sun singletracks(not sure wat hubs)
Shimano Xt disc brakes 8"/6" i hope but probably 6"/6"
Wtb Power V seat
Mayb a new fork.

Like i said im gonna have to empty my bike fund and workmy aass off but its all worth it in the end

Coming off the judy it will feel the same.....but more travel

I plan on upgrading my Scalpel 800 with some new wheels, brake pads, and crankset. I may also do new pedals - something with a platform for doing the real technical stuff.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Chris King hubs with Mavic Crossmax SL rims
Truvativ Stylo Team crankset
Time ATAC Control Z pedals
Kool Stop brake pads

Maybe a Lefty fork? I have to talk to my C-dale rep.

McGuillicuddy 08-29-03 08:12 AM

Where's the 'Nothing, I'm flat broke' option?

a2psyklnut 08-29-03 08:16 AM

I guess that would fall under the "Nothing, I've got all I need" since your need is dependent on your wallet.:D

My next purchase, asuming nothing breaks that needs replacement ASAP, would be wheels and disks. Im thinking
XT disk hubs
Mavic F219 rims
Avid mech disks

If I ever find the money to put in the order for those ill be doing well, but if I do find more money I can replace my bars, stem, seatpost, and seat, and I will have all the extra components I need to rebuild my old steel hardtail, for riding things that are likley to break my bike.

Buzzbomb 08-29-03 09:03 AM

Let's see, I just replaced the front wheel on my MTB, used a King ISO hub and Alex TD17 disc only rims with a 185 mm rotor. Rear Speedhub will be laced into one of these rims this winter, but I will stick with the 160 mm rotor in the back. I cut my bars down a couple of weeks ago to the width I was running on my C'Dale, and found out that a wider bar works better with 29 inch wheels, so off to the LBS for a pair of Monkey Lite risers. I stripped the RF turbines off my C'Dale and put the LX back on it, so my 29"er is pretty much right where I want it. I think I'm going to pick up my friend's Colnago Dream, a beautiful Ferrari of a road bike, more bike than I need, but you know what they say about opportunity. Besides, isn't my motto "Don't hesitate, accumulate"?
