Inner Tube Size Question
Got my new bike (Giant XTC-850) and am giving it the once over. Need to pick up a couple spare tubes and my tires are 26 x 52/47. As I understand it this is the Wilderness Trail Bikes' Global Measuring System which is a new one on me.
So what size do I buy here? 26 x 2.1?

2.1 will be fine. So would 1.95. Not real critical, at least with standard butyl tubes.

I've bought some Bell tubes at Walmart and Schwinn tubes at Target, both in 26x1.75/1.95/2.125" size. Both brands are very skinny little tubes that have to expand a lot to actually fit those tire sizes. That's not necessarily a good thing, but the moral is that tube sizes are pretty flexible. You don't want so much extra tube that it gets wrinkles on it when inflated in the tire. And if it's too undersized, it's harder to get patches to stay on if you patch it. Otherwise, it doesn't matter a whole lot.

Size isn't that critical, except that if the tube is too large, it may bunch up in the tire. Better slightly small than too big. I think a 26 x 1.9-2.1 would fit.
FWIW, I'm running 26 x 1.5-1.9 tubes in a 29er tire. Saves a hundred grams per wheel.
