fork opinions please

i'm planning to make a shift to a full suspension bike (frame) soon. based on the manufacturers recommendations the frame will accept any fork with 120mm min to 150mm max travel. i have two choices - a rockshox revelation (429) or a fox vanilla (r). assuming they cost the same, which one do you think would be a better choice? btw, i don't do jumps or any aggressive trail riding. well not yet anyway :)

thanks!

What frame are we talking here?

Fox, btw.

an orange five frame (05) with about 4.5inches of travel at the rear (stock manitou swinger shock)...

why fox? :)

fox, they rock

Is fox as reliable though? I hear some about leaking problems.

i would not be surprised if many of those leaks were due to poor maintenance. it is always funny to hear people say this or that sucks and it is really their poor maintenance. my chevrolet works great! :D

fox

ok, looks like you guys like fox :) why?

with all the bells and whistles that come with rock shox revelation, why would a fox vanilla r be superior?
based on your experiences, please help me understand :o

i don't think it is so superior. RS makes great stuff too. unless RS has changed some things, there tended to be more machined parts on the fox where sometimes other companies might opt for plastic. whether this is better or not...

Nice thing about RS is their forks are easy to service, and servicable by any shop with basic tools. Fox tend to be very maintenance intensive, and need to get sent in more often than not it seems. Bang for the buck, RS wins over Fox hands down.

agree with you on this one :) rs seem to offer better features and value.

You should be comparing the Revelation to the Vanilla RLC, not the R.

The Revelation adds travel adjust and platform adjustment... neither of which I care for, but you might.

I recently ordered a Rockshox Domain for my freeride bike. It's got a similar Motion Control damping system that seems to be pretty solid. My AM bike will likely get a Vanilla RLC when the time comes to blow some $$.

I've used both Fox and Rockshox stuff for the past 4 years, and am going to have to say the Fox.

RS. I've had a lot of problems out of Fox(and it had nothing to do with poor maint.).

i know :) i was just surprised that given the same price being offered to me (brand new rs revelation vs. bargain brand new fox vanilla r) my bike buddies were telling me to get the fox (?). this despite the lack of features compared to the rs. since i'm not one to buy something because of brand alone, i had to ask around.

anyway, i got the frame already. just waiting for a chris king headset at the lbs and i'm good to go.
and i've decided to get the revelation :D thanks for the feedback.
