Trail Locating
 

How do you locate trails in your area? This is to get more ideas on how to locate trails in the areas we live in.

Having lived in Arizona for 20 years I pretty much know the state like the back of my hand. I do utilize online map sites to find new trails. This website is made of Arial photos and Topographic maps.

This site has been very useful to me. I have a topo map book but this usually will also lets me see how grown over or wide a trail is. I have found several in my immediate area and more that are just outside my area.

Anyone else have any other ways?

I go out and ride. Most trails intertwine somewhere here so I can do some long loops :)

Look at www.mtbreview.com they have a trails section there.

For Colorado, I take a look at www.trailcentral.com. It has some good data available for a fair number of the trails around here, with maps etc for many. Not comprehensive by any means, but gives me a good idea of what areas might have a few trails - useful for me since I've only lived here for about 18 months and don't know the area all that well yet.

Word of mouth is also a great way to find out where the trails are. I always have a chat with the other bikers in the parking lots - have been told about quite a few great trails this way! :D

If you like aggresive riding you should check out South Mountain near Phoenix. There is some sick riding there and some good 14 to 20mi loops.

I am not sure what type of users are on the AZ site but if it is like here in CA. you will get some idiots that will just flame you and some that will answer your questions. Good place for comedy:D

Visit the local shops. I usually stop in when visiting a new area and ask about the best places. Always works great. Sometimes, they recommend a guide book or a local trail map that they have available for sale. I usually always buy it. It helps support them, and then they're usually more helpful about pointing out the better trails.
