Headset Wooos

Will I be happy with $65 in my pocket by buying the CaneCreek S2? Or should I just say the heck with it and buy the Chris King?

What kind of riding are you in to? I would say that if you do XC and really want to save, C2 would be fine. If you do heavier stuff you will definatly be better off with the King.

Get the FSA pig headset. If you go hard get the dh model. For 30$ cdn you can't find a better headset and it is up there in quality with raceface and king.

I dont do much heavy stuff at all. I just like high quality parts. However, I've heard bad things about the C2 which you mentioned. I was speaking of the S2 which is slightly more expensive but still cheap compared to the King.

Guess what Im asking is if anyone has any experience with the CaneCreek S2 headset. Its sealed and all that good stuff as far as I know.

Wilson10,

I recently had a Cane Creek S2 installed on my Stumpjumper FSR and so far it's been great! Yesterday I took the bike out for some low-impact urban assault (i.e. 2 ft. drops and fast down 10 or so stairs kinda' stuff) and I didn't develop any play in the headset. I haven't noticed any leaking or grinding with all the fine sand and dirt I ride in so that's good as well. I think you'd be happy with the S2.

Chris King - better part, better warranty, cleaner, more responsible manufacturing process.

I've had a couple of Cane Creek Headsets and they all worked fine. I did however, take the plunge and buy a King. It's all a matter of if you want to buy one and keep it forever, or buy several over time.

IOW, I'd spend the extra and get the King.

The S2 is a great headset, and with the extra 70 bucks you could buy a good bar or stem. Somebody (Performance?) has the S2 on sale for $29.

Well, I have to admit that I don't get to "try" too many headsets, since I've been riding the SAME KING FOR TWELVE YEARS, but there is a very good headset out there on eBay that you should look to: the Syncros. These were of King "quality" and priced that way, but are being cleared for $39 by someone. Get that, be done.
