New kind of BB.

Thats the new bottom brackets that RF will introduce, the question still remains as if they are still ISIS compatible.

It really looks like business to me,,,,,reliable etc etc, even if its not released and tested yet, but i would be VERY dissapointed if i find out that its a new proprietary system.

How is it an XTR clone? The left crankarm doesn't attach to the spindles via pinchclamps and the right one (I don't think) isn't permanently attached to the spindle like with the Shimano integrated BB. It is basically a refined and beefed up splined interface with bearings placed outside the BB shell.

MOREEE NEWSSSSS. Raceface TurbinesLP, and NorthShore Series of cranks are going to be DISCONTINUED. The new RF 2004 cranks to replace them ARE:

DeusXC available in ISIS and the new X-type spline with external bearings (Turbine replacement)
Athlus in ISIS or X-type (model for allmountain trailriding befier than turbines lighter than NS)
Diabolus ISIS or Xtype! Replacement for NS cranks
EvolveXC/DH replacement for Prodigy XC/DH ISIS only

Obviously Turbines and NorthShores are out of the game....since they are discontinued....(damn and i wanted a turbine ). Release date: Feb/March 2004.

I wonder if I can find a set of turbines for dirt cheap now that they are "obsolete"? I love that crankset.

it's an XTR clone fromt ehpoint of view that the ono drive side crank arm IS permanantly attached to the axle and the drive is'nt.
The bearings are outboard as well.

So an XTr rip off and they've got round the XTR patent by attaching the non drive siade to the axle.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

The crankarms ARE NOT attached to the bb axle. so no relation to XTR

Talking about crank arms, those crank arms in that picture look downright strange. What is up with that kink in them?

Race face is making a very bad decision by discontinuing the two most popular crank sets they have ever made in their history. I'm thinking of getting a shimano Saint Crankset. Tried one today, very strong.

Danka the curve on the arms is for clearing the chainstays. The arms are not welded to the bb. New Xtype bb will be stronger and more longlasting that the RF signature series , more importantly it is expected to be 10% cheaper. Obviously if RF introduces Xtype splines....it would be hard to redesign NS and turbines again....so RF replaced them with Diabolus and Deus respectively. More important...the new Athlus (iirc) model sits in the middle of Deus and Diabolus in terms of weight and strenght!!!! Sounds like the perfect choice for trailriding.

So let me get this straight.
the only components locating the bb axle are the cranks bolts??
Seems like a lot of phaff for a gain in stiffness....
I'm not convinced that one of those arms are not permanently fixed....

no that snot my point so don't try and deflect this.

I'm bringing the unique ness of the neew RVC cranks and BB into question not the stiffness. learly outboard bearings is the way to go but that RF set up looks suspiciously similar to a XTR set up to clai it is completely different.
Do you have evidence to back up your claim that one of the cranks arms isnot permamnently joined to the Axle.??

I smell a Shimano patent infringement.

Well shimano is wellknown for using other's ideas and then she patents them herself and sues other for using them. The cranks have bolts on both ends on RF new line. It is irrational to bolt a glued crankarm to an axle. Attaching a crankarm to an axle is not a patent nor outboard bearings. I never said that RF was unique or blah blah blah....i just said its a radically new design in comparison with ISIS and square taper, and by the way i didnt mention XTR style or octalink simply because they are letter designs

and I merely inquired as to the exact nature of the fixing of the crank arms to the bb axle. It would seema great waste of effort of have those spacers in place if one of the arms was not fixed to the axle.
That was not an accusation but merely a confirmation that the XTR concept is a good one and that others ie Raceface, are going to follow the concept.

No need toget all defensive over your precious Race face product.

Look mate, i dont own raceface or shimano, and i dont work for either, i own parts from both brands and i am more than happy with both brand's products. The thing is that shimano hasnt produced anything new with XTR. PERIOD! RF doesnt use spacers , those blue thingies are bearing carriers.....

Jesus....this is not www.shimanoforums.net for supporters of XTR neither racefaceforums.net to support RF.

I bet you love www.xtr.com

theBB has three spacers in it Math!
the black rings are the spacers.
and there are 3.
two drive side and one non drive side aka xtr with 68mm shell.

Now clearly you have no idea if either crank arm is permanently fixed to the BB axle so I'm going to enquire from RF whether or not this is the case.

adieu

Hey guys, remember "BULLSEYE" cranks?

Yep, they're outboard bearing with drive side attached, made in the early '80's. Almost exactly what the Shimano XTR design is based on.

"I wonder who's the copyee and the copier?" https://www.bikepro.com/products/cranks/bullseye.html
