I have a Princeton Tec headlamp, the same as this one shown.

I'm trying to figure out some way of attaching it to my helmet for night riding, haven't had any luck in figuring out a practical way yet. Has anybody done this before or got any ideas?

I have a Petzl Tikka Plus, which can be worn under my helmet; the light being small enough to not get in the way of the front of the helmet.

i had a base model black diamond headlamp, and i'd started using it on my helmet (outside ontop) and it ended up stretching the cord too much and now the light doesn't work (unless you fiddle with the cord endlessly). Now i sorta wish i just kept the head torch for my head and camping and got bike lights (although it is cool to be able to look where you want the light). I think i probably wouldn't use headlamp again unless it was speciically designed to go onto or under a helmet.

ohh but now that i see that image of your lamp i see that its got no cord so you should be fine to fit it under your helmet

Those are a bit tricky because of the angle they have to ride at. If your helmet has a visor, it will be righ about where the light has to perch. If you do find a spot above or below the visor, a zip-tie through the vent holes will keep it from slipping.

It will not be enough light for riding; but makes a good little auxiliary for trailside repairs, etc.

I've done this by putting one of these in the nook of the visor. I've even done this with a Yukon lamp. Honestly ... it's not worth it. The general headlamps aren't bright enough to do MTB nightriding with. You're best off buying a purpose built MTB system, even if you only get one of the old halgens with the big bulky batteries.

I imagine one of these little lamps would be a great backup that you could put on one of your shoulder straps in case you have a mechanical and don't need the big light. A light in that position would also do a good job lighting up your bike computer. But it won't help you navigate unless you ride at a walking pace.

My sons have had the same experience as BearSquirrel.

They used a lot of duct tape to fix the light in place, but eventually settled on NightSun with a post-mount battery.

The "bike block" item pictured holding a pump to a top tube works well to fasten a AA-LED flashlight to a helmet between the vents. I use it sometimes with my Fenix flashlight, which is actually as bright as my Dinotte AA light (and 1/3 the price).

Still inadequate for night MTB riding. Nothing fueled by 2 AA batteries will have enough brightness and longevity to bike serious at night with. I thought this was an MTB forum?
