Bamboo bikes are nothing new...

DirtPedalerB 12-15-07 10:20 PM

I'm going to make a copper bike frame... then give it to some bums and see how many days it takes for it to turn up at the recycling center.

or better yet a copper plated bike so they try to recycle it, but get mad when they can't

oh yeah it'll be a ladies model since that's what bums ride for some reason.

I wonder how bamboo would ride?

Bike Lover 12-17-07 08:28 AM

Laterally stiff, yet vertically compliant. ;)

It would sway in the wind . . . plus drink up every puddle it's parked in, send suckers up from the chainstays and choke out everything else in the garage.

I've been tempted to built a bike out of 2x4's or plywood- that would be cool as well.

Bamboo and wood are much like carbon fiber, but instead of carbon fibers set in plastic, its cellulose fibers set in lignin. Same thing really.
