uhh, 69nr I guess

This has probably been asked alot, but what would happen if I mounted a 29r and went ridged with this bike? Would it become really sweet and roll over everything, or do you really need a big back wheel to see much improvement.

The biggest affect of a 29" wheels comes from the front wheel. That is why people run 96ers to begin with. Think about it, this is why we have front suspension bikes to begin with. Asking if a 29er up from does any good is equivilant to asking if a front only suspension is any good or do you need suspension on the back as well before you notice any difference. 29" up front is good and one in the rear only helps further.

I wouldn't bother - your head angle is too slack for a 29er and the bike's handling will suffer. If you really want a rigid 29er and don't have much money, go buy a used Redline Monocog 29er for a few hundred.

Couldn't a non-suspension corrected 29er fork replace a 80 mm suspension 26" fork, without affecting the head tube angle much? The extra 63 mm of rim diameter is close to the 80 mm of suspension (really a little smaller due to sag) it is replacing.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Dirt Rag did an article on this. Yes, this is how you would convert a 26er to a 69er. Just remember, riding rigid takes a little getting used to. Ultimately though, I think it's a better ride on mostly smooth track as you have much more control.
