What did you first do?

Let me rephrase the question:

What was the first things you bought and did when you finally got your new (current) bike home?

With this new bike, im trying to figure out what new stuff i should get so im ready to get some harder XC riding.

Same as a few here - removed the reflectors, added a computer, pump, cages etc, installed pedals, took it for a ride, stacked it, scratched the crap out of the left chainstay...

My bike was pretty much built but my FBS was waiting on a rear shock upgrade. However, the stock shock was fitted and I was told I could take it for a test ride. I hit the trails near the shop. I came around the corner pretty fast... too fast and tapped the brakes to try and bleed off some speed. The ground was of course wet from the rain and as I kissed the brake levers my rear tyre was rolling over some roots. This caused the bike to simply depart from underneath me. I was also amazed at how I unconsciously unclipped. After picking myself up off the ground, I surveyed the damage. The bike was in the brushes with a scraped up XTR derailleur. I also scratched up the right side pedal body and the barend. I myself managed a bit of trail rash in the process. Luckily, aside from cosmetic scuffing, nothing was broken.
