Did you also know there is two types of Mongoose? Real Mongoose and Chinese Walmart Mongoose. I feel they have given themselves a bad rep. But I guess more power to them. Personally I wouldn't ever ride a Mongoose, I don't care if they offer some championship winning $4000 bikes, it's the knowing that Johnny down the street has a $79 bike from Walmart with the same name.

As long as people are riding, does it really matter what they ride so long as they're out there pedaling?

I'll argue that.

They still made the SuperGoose in 1984 .

Riding is riding I will admit that and do not descrimenate. I do not blame the uninformed but commuting on it would hardly be fun and more of a chore. My friend tried to ride with me on a 8 mile round trip and within the first 2 miles was already dying from having to pedal hard to keep up with me on it. I tried it myself and a small hill is a mountain!! I bought a cheapie $180 mtb not knowing the quality of it and now I am learning that I would have spent a lot more to get a much higher quality bike. I would say the wallmart bikes are good for kids who are not riding thousands of miles a year. As for people who wish to cycle a long distance or a lot of miles a year no I would not suggest it.

The EC line of Mongoose bikes look pretty good and are really well spec'd, especially considering the pricepoint.

I'm not a big mongoose fan I've always been a fan of Haro. I had a bmx bike from haro and rode quite a lot on it till it got jacked. After that I didn't ride a bike for about 3 years.

IMHO it really DOES matter. My concern is the individual who thinks because their $79 bike from X-Mart says "Mountain Bike" on the sales sticker, they can ride single track with it. I've been out there with them, and I've seen the rims bend, pedals break, cranks come lose. There are other's who can add.

If you're referring to riding around town on flat asphault, no jumps, no logs, etc. yeah, those inexpensive bikes are probably OK for that.

There's quote a few of their higher end bikes that are extremely well worth it for the money. Needless to say, there is deff. a few I would ride.

Interesting, since the XR-200 I beat on fairly regularly hasn't had any issues besides one split pedal body that didn't really come as a surprise to me when it happened.

I also use it to tow a BoB Ibex trailer over various terrains in all the different kinds of weather you get to enjoy in the northeast without any problems.

So don't sell the, so-called, X-mart bikes short, they might just surprise you.

I purchased the $279 Mongoose Blackcomb two years ago and it's a great low cost bike. I think you need to get a clue kid.

I was recenly given a Mongoose XR250 bike that was missing the front wheel, & seatpost. I thought about using it's rear derailler on a Schwinn that I had that needed one. Both used the same derailler. Just out of curiosity, I put the Schwinn's front wheel on the Mongoose, a seat & post from another junk bike on it, tuned it up & rode it a bit. After some fine tuning, it is not too bad. YES, I hate the sound of the name, but with my bad back, the rear suspension, & HEAVY [ 47lbs ] frame,, made it ride like Grandpa's old Buick.
