Tire Size?
 

Newbie question: I wanted some honest feed back from you guys in the MTB community. Do you thing that a 26X2.35 tire (for winter/wet) is to big for a Trek Fuel EX8? I ride in the Memphis and surrounding area. Thanks advance for any feed back.

Nope. Its a pretty good size.

That size sounds just about right. However, the tread profile on the tyre is as equally as important as width.

I ended up getting Kenda Nevegals in the 2.35. Will take the bike out saturday morning and see if I like.

They are great tyres, have a pair myself, you wont be disappointed :D

I run them on one of my MTB's, but they're just way to slow to run on a racing bike. So I have my bomb-proof all-mountain set-up, and then I have another bike set for XC.... even though it's still an AM....

Would my trek be considered xc or am? Still trying to learn to lingo:rolleyes:

The nevegals are simply great tires.

My supah (comparative) fast AM set-up is a Trek Fuel EX7, so we have something in common. Trek says that the Top Fuels a "XC Race" when they're really XC. XC Race is just a made-up term to sound faster.

The standard Fuels are explicitly stated to be Trail Bikes (IE All Mountain), though Trek makes it seem like they're XC bikes.

TL;DR- You have an All-Mountain Bike

Run whatever you want on it, its your bike so it should be set up to your tastes. I don't like riser bars but does that mean they're the best choice for everyone?

Oh, the Kenda Nevagals stick really well on uphills, especially if it's the Stick-E version with the rear tire on backwards.

Tyres may fit the bike but for winter use offroad in Mud I would go narrow. Panaracer Mud Pros in 1.8.

I like bigger tires on the front and a "normal" one on the back..2.3 front and a 2.0 on the back

I don't think he'll have any issues with the frame getting clogged with mud in the South Eastern sector of the US. Plus his bike has the clearance that it won't likely happen with a 26x2.35 tire.

So I got the tires on. The only clearance issue is with the little clip that holds the break line on the fork. When I turn hard left it rubs a little. I can definitely tell a difference in the rolling resistance. It is a much slower rolling tire, but I gained that much if not more in traction. To soon to tell if I like it or love it
