What's up with my rear suspension?
I've not ridden much in the last year or so, but am going to be doing a lot of mountain biking soon.
I've always thought my rear shock was too squishy. I just bought a good shock pump and it seems the shock won't really respond to it. The gauge sort of maxes out at around 150 or so. Then I get on the bike and the rubber marker sinks right back down to about 75% depressed. Can a shock get leaky? Or like no air actually went in. (The pump works fine because I have another bike that I got very firm using it)

Are you sure the valve is being seated correctly? on my fork's positive pressure valve I really have to crank down on the pumps valve to get it to engage with the fork's. The negative pressure valve, however, mates perfectly within a few turns.

Take a pen and poke the schrader valve until it goes "PSHH", then try pumping it up again. Sometimes the valve gets stuck and won't open, so all you're really doing is pressurizing the pump hose.

Thanks, all good advise, but this my be it. I had a feeling the pump really wasn't putting air into the shock at all.

when i bought my frame a few months ago, i did some research and found out that most fox models dont hold pressure very well after a certain amount of use. hopefully thats not whats going on with yours

Have it serviced at FOX.
I had my old shock serviced, they installed a NEW nitrogen canister( sp)
and seal kit.
Works great..
Before it would lose pressure over a few days due to sorn seals.
But hey, 2 weeks later I purchased a new bike so go figure...

Well, we'll see what happens now.
I emptied what was in there, and it did seem to take 'new' air on refilling. I got it up to near 200 PSI and it became difficult to go any more. I sat on it and it depressed to a spot that seemed more normal and better. I need to just ride it now to give it a full test and to see if it now keeps the air in. That's the big question now I guess...
Thing is too, I'm going to be selling the bike soon, so I want it to be in sellable shape ( I don't really want to be sending off for service.)
