Vintage Mountain Bike:1988 Trek 930

Was wondering your opinions on the worth of a 1988 Trek 930? Lugged, True Temper steel frame, shimano Exage components complete and in very nice cosmetic shape. It would fit me and the seller is asking $180. Is this bike "worth" this price not as a colllector but as a rider? Thanks!

$180 seems a bit high. I'd find out what the true model year is - Trek didn't have the 930 in their lineup for 1988.

$100 sounds about right, maybe less. I've flipped a few of those older Trek (and other makes) rigid fork mountain bikes. They don't sell for high bucks. A lugged frame may have some vintage value, but that's about all.

If the components are all good, the wheels true, and the frame is straight; $150 would be a fair price. Just make sure the bike is a good fit for you. If you think $150 is a bit steep for a lugged steel mountain bike, go to the Rivendell website; you can spend $1500 on a steel lugged mountain bike frame.
