It's somewhat XC. XC when used on a low-end fork means "light trail or road", basically. Too heavy to race with, not set up to jump or drop with.

Well, Ive been offered a chance to start training with racers and members of SORBA, One of my teachers is a member and asked if I would like to start doing some racing.
So, I'll be upgrading quite a bit this summer..
--- geeze, I need a job.....
Just need some help on the forks because BMX bikes didn't have suspension, I'm new to all this, and I'm openly admitting, I don't know much about suspension forks, except that mine sucks.

Pretty much anything over $100 is going to be better than the one you have now. However, this is not saying much. My fork cost about 100-200 more than my bike originally did, but it's worth the money. If there is one place to spend money on a bike it's the suspension. Then the brakes. In my opinion, that is.

Ride the hell out of the Trek, work hard, get a decent job. Build up a real XC bike. By "real" I mean a weight-weenie, quasi-roadie special. Good luck.

I'm not a moron crankshaft, i know what you mean by real.
You can quit treating me like a little kid any day now.
Thanks for the input pyro.
Starting to like some of the Marz. forks, but they don't list prices.. that scares me.

It can be. As far as I know their site is updated only when the models change.
Which forks are you interested in?

dart 3 seems to be fairly good. the reviews show a person upgrading from my current fork, and they say its loads better. Yea, they have V-brake mounts, but Disk brakes is in my future.
I think, this fork will be one of the contenders, problem is, I don't know if it's the right lengths.
any other fork ideas out there?
My fork now is like a freaking pogo stick. I could probably take it off and jump around on it.

Well, the dart isn't much better than what you have on there, but it is an improvement.

I'd search ebay or craigslist for a used fork that is in decent shape or save up some for a Marzocchi MX Pro.

Adjust your budget upwards if you want improvement. What is wrong with the performance of your current fork? Why not ride it til it breaks? There are other upgrades to consider on your 3900...

My current fork bottoms out to easily, and its like riding with a pogo stick as your fork. The adjustments suck bad on it also.

Rock Shox Totem. It will work, trust me. Seriously though, if you're not willing to spend the cash don't expect anything above and beyond. If you really want an upgrade, just put up with the fork you have now and wait until you have enough capital amassed. It's really not that bad riding a pogo stick. It will make you a better rider because you will have to fight harder to stay on track. You will find your flow better, young grasshopper. If you think you're going to be serious about staying with mountain biking then the investment will be worth it. It is like night and day when you upgrade enough. I went from an rst gila to a rockshox revelation air-sprung and I almost crapped myself the first time I rode it.

ok, please don't get stupid on me, I know for a fact, that wouldn't work on my bike,
Im just trying to get some ideas, as my birthday is comming up.
Since I really don't know much about forks, besides that mines sucks and I hate it, im looking for help.
I can probably stretch my budget a bit.
I can always go half-ers with my parents.
