Gaerne Downhill Boots
My roommate keeps talking about an old pair of Gaerne clipless DH boots, but they're not made anymore and I can't seem to find any info. Anyone with some information, maybe a model name would be great. And no **** I saw some girl riding with 'em for Stuporbowl....weird. Think they haven't been around for 10+ years.

Gaerne was a Valencia Sport Group brand (SixSixOne) that was phased out. I know the boots you're talking about; I can probably find them in one of my old catalogs. Interesting boot - - almost a mini-MX boot.
Edit: I stand corrected - - Gaerne is still a valid brand; Valencia Sport Group just divested themselves of handling the cycling shoe line and are only carrying Gaerne's moto stuff now. The full text of an article about it is here:

Gaerne still makes an SPD boot; but it's a cold-weather one rather than a DH boot. It resembles an XC ski boot in appearance and is called the Eskimo:

...Oh, and the DH boot I was thinking of was a Sidi Avalanche that no longer is made; it was way-cool looking - - almost like a set of AlpineStars MX boots:
I lusted after these badly for a while.

Is this the one you are thinking of? (from EuroBike 2002):

That's a Gaerne Polar, which is actually a winter boot too. The Sangho is waterproof and billed as a freeride boot:
Indeed! This is what my last pair of Hi-Point/Alpinestars look like:

Hmmm....no they're really close to the Sidis you posted, pretty much clipless MX boots. I'm using a pair of Gaerne Polars, it's not those. Sam

. . . And not nearly as punk as the lineman's boots I wore most of my formative years racing.
