XTR hubs/Mavic 3.1 rims?

Think this would be a decent combo? I'll be using them as a set of beginner race wheels. I've read reviews that the 3.1s are kind of heavy @ ~500 grams, but I'm not a real weight weenie and am not sure whether I would notice a lighter rim or not. Mainly I am looking for something that will stand up, be decently versatile if I want to switch it from bike to bike, and not be the heaviest thing in the world. If anyone has any experience with either hub or rim I'd love to hear it, or if anyone has any compelling reason I should avoid either or other products I should be looking at.

I have an XTR rear hub, and loved it. I upgraded to a Chris King and must say other than the noise the King makes whiling coasting there doesn't appear to be that much difference between the two. I gather that the King is much more bomb proof, and has more engagement points. The XTR spins smoother with less resistance. I had them on a Velocity VXC rim and they were very light and durable. Don't know much about the Mavic 3.1 though.
