I like that idea!

It'd be nice if there were a biking team at my school... then again it couldn't really happen: November - April it's either too cold, too snowy, or too wet to bike regularly. Otherwise, it's a nice idea :). I guess I'll just have to go out with my friends like I normally do.

A Chess Club, would be much cheaper and more exciting.

I've actually been thinking of starting a mtb club for the past few months. I live in almost-rural Connecticut and have quite a few hills to ride around. I actually live right near Case Mountain, if anyone knows of it. I read some magazine which ranked it in the top destinations for mountain bikers. Anyways, do you guys think I should start a club or just get a bunch of friends together and ride. A club would probably look good on a college application but needs a teacher to lead it, and to be honest I don't think any of the teachers would be crazy enough to take liability for a bunch of crazy teenagers in the woods.

Sometimes a school's decision NOT to allow a school sponsored sport comes down to insurance issues. We in WV have run into that - the State Sports Athletic Commission will not sanction mountain biking, but some schools have gotten around the issue by forming clubs affiliated with outside organizations which CAN provide insurance.

The SSAC would sanction mountain biking - and cycling in general - IF there were a huge push from the HS athletic directors and principals statewide... it's not happening, though.
