Motobecane / BD
I'm almost afraid to post this thread.
I have two questions-
What is the low down on BikesDirect? Everyone happy with the service/prompt shipping.. any complications?
Second.. The Motobecane Fantom Trail 2008, has some awesome components for the price. Whats up, am I gonna snap the frame riding up a curb or what?
I've read so many good things about motobecane, and then a ton of good and bad about BD.. which for some reason Motobecane gets dragged in.. and I cant tell if everyones bad mouthing BD or Motobecane..
So.. am I making a smart purchase by buying the Motobecane Fantom Trail, where ever that ends up being. I like the setup, but is there something i'm missing?
thanks....... I hope.

People ragging on BD mostly talk about marketing. BD's motobecanes are not one bit related to the old Moto's. They advertise how Motobecanes have been around for so long, yadda yadda yadda. Borderline dishonest.
That being said, I have one. Fantom Elite DS. Does it's job, has not failed, no cracks. I like it. They're a great deal if you don't mind assembly and fooling around with fit when you get it.
I have not had to deal with BD about any warranty issues though. Can't comment on that.

Never done business with them, but their is a bikesdirect user who posts here occasionally. They asked on the SSFG forum what colors people would like to see in a particular frame / build and the forum input I think directly affected the outcome. That kind of business I really appreciate, but your milage may very.

Bike Direct House brand = Very little resale if you ever change your mind.
It does seem that people get a lot of bike for the buck.
Seems to use good components for the price. Other threads point out the pluses and minuses on customer service.
Myself, I would rather save money on a bike by buying a name brand used, partially because I am still in the learning phase, and fully expect to be moving up. So being able to turn the bike when I am ready to upgrade, and not take a bath on it, is an important factor to me.
If I was absolutely sure of what I wanted long term, I might just get a BD model.
