What's the worst bike that you have ever had?
Me, a 2003 Giant AC1, had so many problems with that bike seems like I was replacing the bearings in the pivots monthly.

2000 Roland. That thing was a tank. Something always went wrong when I rode it.
|
Mongoose MGX D40i full suspension from Costco. My first 'mountain' bike. Nobody told me I shouldn't be able to do with it what I did . . . so I did it.
|
Supercycle Hooligan
It weighed around 45 pounds Impossible to get shifting properly The fork was a double crown with 3 inches of travel http://www.btt.com.ar/foto/o/11/13/1...1_vitesses.jpg |
A CCM hardtail...that thing was awesome. Actually, the best thing that ever happened was when it got stolen off of my balcony (on the third floor!).
|
My first mtn. bike.. an '89-'90ish Trek 830.. fluorescent green and heavy.

2001 Ellsworth Truth.
Friggin' time bomb "backed" by a scumbag-owned company. Thankfully I sold it for $1400 (frame only with with CK headset, Salsa QR, and RF Ti BB) and moved on to better things. |

Tell us how you really feel ;) Must've been the add-ons that sold it.
The poor execution (Ellsworth design flaw) of that rear suspension coupled with the horrible customer service and outright lies from Tony Ellsworth are what prompted the fire sale. Live and learn. |
X-Mart bike i got for free when i was 12. I thought it was the ducks nuts back in the day. Still had it up until a few months ago when i turned it into a sand-dune bike.
Upon reflection it rode ok, but yeah. Didnt last long. If anyone else has photos of those deathbikes, please feel free to post. Especially you Smashy, i'd like to see your take on an AC1. |
Mongoose "hilltopper" I bought for my wife (GF at the time) in the early 90's. I was riding a GT Karakoram and she wanted to ride with me. It was alot of scratch for me back then. We still have the "hilltopper", it has less than one mile on it.

I guess I've been lucky that all my MTBs have been of decent quality.
The first was a 1990 Bianchi Grizzly. Tange Prestige tubing with SunTour XC Pro. Best shifting bike I ever road. Sold it to my younger brother. It was replaced by a 1995 (or 1996) Catamount MFS with Deore LX. Still have it. I just finished building the Top Image Neptune single-speed. I suppose it would have to be the "worst" one of the group, simply because the frame is a lower-end. But it rides beautifully and feels fairly light weight. Worst road bike is a different story: My old Zebrakenko wins, hands down. Low-end steel with stamped dropouts. Crappy low-end componentry. But it was what I had to ride. |
Worst mtn bike was a '95 [?] Stumpjumper FS Comp. The bike itself wasn't bad, but the Bike Shop guy sold me a 19" frame. My last 4 bikes have been 17", just as a comparison. This was the beginning of my distrust of The Bike Shop. I should have known better, but it sorta fit in the store and on the 2 minute test drive...
Worst quality road bike was a Woolco 10-speed I got when I was 12, but it carried me everywhere I wanted to go, so it wasn't that bad. The bike that really was the worst to ride was an IRO Rob Roy frame/fork which I built up into a daily commuter. Holy crap, what an awful ride! It didn't help that it was a boat anchor as well. "Double-butted" my ass! Gaspipe FTL! |
I have 3 mountain bikes ALL of which have been good to me. The newest one is a Giant Anthem 2006 FS. I love this bike! The only thing I don't like is the weight but its at the bike shop right now getting stripped and naked for we are seeing where we can lose some of the weight on her. The back wheel came in at 5.5lbs!!!! WHOLLY CRAP. So new wheels are a must :)

My first mountain bike was a full rigid no-name cheapy. At the top of the first big hill I came as close to dying as I've ever been. I was out of the saddle going like mad and went until I fell over. I literally couldn't recover. I didn't know that it was OK to stop and push if you had to. The bike was massively heavy. It even had steel cranks! Those things weighed a ton. It shook me to death on the way down and convinced me to get a good bike. Who knew that a front suspension was a big deal?

Giant Cypress Hybrid, the only thing it did well was commute!
