My 2005 Kona Kula arrived today! It's beautiful :D Even so much nicer in real life than on the KonaWorld website or the Kona catalog. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of the framework, the assembly and component package, and the paint is flawless (believe me, I looked it over with a magnifying glass! ; ) Just got it home; still has the reflectors on the wheels :o Tomorrow I'll give it a workout and more pic's when it gets it's first dirt on it. Sure do like that RaceFace X-drive crankset (rock solid).

Bad Report: Somehow my jacksh!7 pedals (actually called that) live up to their name. 1 day into the biking and 2 pins are missing while 1 is loose. I've created a chainstay protector using seran wrap/ alum foil, until I can get a rubber tube. My chain or my drivetrain has something wrong with it and when I pedal sometimes the chian skips or jumps or makes a small vibe. Dang!

No idea about the pins. But find an old poppd tire and ziptie it to the chainstay. Thats what I did, makes it almost silent. Check to see if you have a stiff link(one like that won't bend around the smaller rollers on the chain tensioner) Do you use any chain lube? How often? Are you using odd chainlines? Biggest-Biggest or smallest-smallest?

Take the rest of them out, put lock-tight on them, install them again. problem solved. glue works too.

hooligan 10-04-04 06:13 PM

I don't know how you take em out. Pliers?

six6one 10-04-04 06:17 PM

They have a thing for an allen wrench on the top of them. clean the crud out of the top and it should work.

Hmm funny story, my jack***** pedals fell off the first week i got my shred.

six6one 10-04-04 06:46 PM

Well I guess they suck. Both you guys should get a set of sun ringle platform pedals. I ordered a set this summer, best pedals I've ever used. The pins are really long, and you adjust them from the bottom of the pedal, so the head of the pins dont get filled with crap you need to clean out. And you adjust them with a phillips head screwdriver rather than that tiny annoying allen wrench.

Way kool! Now to fix my skipping chain/crappy drive train. I hope it's the chain because I hear drive trains are MORE expensive. :S

hooligan 10-04-04 08:02 PM

Wow, that's just ...strange lookin. Not in a bad way nor a good way. Just different. Me like different.
