i am pretty sure you need top pull high clamp. my sram x9 has been working great! don't forget to order a spacer if you need it for the frame.

anybody out there with a Taurine?

mx_599 03-02-08 05:12 PM

fine. next time i won't help.

here is some more advice: google

sorry, mx - it was the "I'm pretty sure" that makes kind of want confirmation. I did google, and it appears that it's such a little detail no one bothers to make a distinction....

i looked up images of the bike. it has to be top pull if the cable is coming from above.

it looks like it is a high mount as well. like my hard tail

How can you tell whether or not a FD needs to be high or low? I know I need a top pull but I can't tell by looking at my frame if a high or low clamp will do the trick.

because the low mount looks all f@#%@# up

Simple, get an xt one and be done with it.

rankin116 03-03-08 06:40 AM

I'm guessing high clamp.

The XT that I have is a much lower clamp than that one. If this still doesn't help, buy both and return the one that doesn't work.

I've found the top swing, ( or "low clamp" as it's known in this thread ) to be the more universal of the two, as the bottom swing ( or "high clamp" ) sometimes can have issues with shock mounting, or bottle cage mounts.

Thanks for the answer. I was assuming it was something like that but wanted to be sure. I have no bottle cage mounts to get in the way so I guess the safe bet would be to go bottom swing although is there any advantage (weight / quality / durability) of going with a top swing?

born2bahick 03-03-08 10:10 AM

Some bikes have shaped tubing at the joints, or pivots for suspension that could render a
top swing useless. I can't say that there is a set weight advantage or reliability
advantage to one specific design.

thanks. folks... just found a high clamp top feed 31.8 x9 for $32.99

apclassic9 03-07-08 10:26 AM

ok....all that & I should have ordered a 34.8mm

mx_599 03-07-08 02:36 PM
