size frame for a 6'3" 170lb. guy?(friend)

ok heres the scenario...
my roomate is looking for a bike to ride to work because his vehicle does not work. he is currently riding a crappy wally world bike that i threw together for him out of two different bikes. its got three speeds and a twenty six inch front tire and twenty four rear its fallen apart on him a couple times now so he asked me to do something for him...find him a bike that he can commute to work on for around 250-300(i know) so i was looking at some hybrids and some 29ers and found a couple i liked for him so now i need to know what size frame? i was thinking 58?? he's 6'3" and around 170 lbs.

It looks like he would fit good on my Gary Fischer GED but i need to have him stand over it so i'm not too sure.

If durability is a concern, a mountain bike will likely be your best choice, as opposed to hybrids and whatnot.

I'm no lightweight myself and my Hardrock has held up for me.

I'm 6'4" and have 63 cm, 19.5', 20', and 21.5'. Your friend needs to try it out to know.

Ya thats what i was afraid of. and unfortunately there are no good bike shops around here that i know of for him to try out so i was going to order one for him. He doesnt need such a durable bike though, he thinks riding on dirt is extreme off roading any suggestions

I'm 6'1 and 190#, I don't feel like I have a particularly hard time riding pretty much anything that's not WAY too small. At 170 pounds I seriously doubt you'll need to seek out an especially durable frame. I ride a 21" frame, and my friend that is 6'3 and 240# rides a 20" diamondback sorento with no problems at all.
