New (Used) MTB: Questions

Hi guyz. I just bought a used Trek 830 Antelope in neon yellow last night for $75 bucks.
It's in killer shape except for 2 things I wanted some opinions on:

1. The rear rim is a liitle bent. Seems like it's bent in 1 spot from an angle as if you're looking
down on the rim, not like side-to-side bent. How big a deal is this? I can't feel anything unless
I'm braking.

2. One of the chainstays is pretty rusted. How much life does Cro-Mo have with rsut, and is there
something I can do to protect that area?

Thanks!

take it somewhere for a hands on opinion... someone may have a straightening jig for wheels, but as it's usually alu, may suggest buget replacement... is the chainstay rust only surface rust? if so should be ok just needs treating & paint rust proofing (again, see someone about that)... fixing it may be costly for a bike that cost little... also check other areas for any other hidden damage, cracks etc

Hey Spindrifter,

are you in LA as in louisiana or LA as Los Angeles? Just wondering. I'd definitely have it checked out. Where'd ya get such a good deal anyway? I'm in LA as in Louisiana, the New Orleans area, and can never seem to find a good deal on a used bike.
