My first race!!!

I did my first race today, I raced..... First timer class. 9 of us in the class.
The race was the Georgia State Cup Race Nuber 1. At Arrowhead Park. The trail is nothing but hills. AND they raced us backwards, so it was even more climbing. The trail was, according to the cyclecomputer I got yesterday (cat eye enduro 8) 5.75 miles long. I completed the lap in 43 minutes, average speed was 7.6mph (slow, but hills were everywhere) Max speed was 24mph.

To cut to the chase, I FINISHED FIRST IN THE FIRST TIMERS!! 4th in my wave or something like that.
They didn't award the first timer group anything so I have no medals or anything to show, but it was fun, and I'll be moving up into the 15-18 XC group.
Lot of good people there in the pro class, had a champion from a race in sweden, a few NORBA champs, and a bunch of other title holders.... they were FAST!

heres some pictures. Crappy day, Weather was really cold, and it misted rain all day..... FREEZING COLD!

Thank you,
I had a great time, except one hill nearly killed me... I felt as if I were about to throw up, I was about to hop off the bike, but I saw the top and kept going. I had the lead the whole time, Even from the start, from the picture you can see I jumped ahead. It was sad though, I was out biked by everyone in my wave except this one college kid, kind of depressing LOL. I was looking at all their full suspension decked out with fox and xtr and crap and was just like, there's no way you're a first timer lol.

next time I'm racing the 15-18 XC class, and I'm determined to get on that podium, as they didnt do anything for first timers, I guess it's ebcause we didn't have to pay to race =(

I do believe that you are supposed to be in front the whole time in order to be competitive. IIRC, Lowcel said something along the lines of that you should max your heart rate within 15 seconds of the start.

Don't worry about the xtr and other shiny things. It's always nice to ride high quality stuff, but it's the fact that you're out there that counts.

Next time I'll actaully have to PAY to race, So I'll get a medal and a prize.
They were giving away some really really nice Maxxis tubless tires to the top 3, Saw them in the bike shope before, 50 bucks a pop, Would be nice to of won those. I think i did max my heart rate within the first 15 seconds, I took off and ran into a hill that was 1/4 mile long, then headed into the woods and continued up lol.
Kinda sucked, I hate hills now.

My fork has officially had it though, theres like oil and eveything else comming out of it now.

Yes, that is horrible when the race guys make you ride the loop in the direction that has more climbing. If only they had folks ride the opposite way it would be easier, because the amount of climbing on the loop is less in that direction.
