Schwinn Rocket 88 (2000)

I got this rocket 88 frame from a buddy for 40 dollars, built it up and rode it all last fall and winter. As these bikes are prone to do the large pivot around the bottom bracket began to get sloppy. I put my bike up for summer road riding and have just got it back out to start riding trails again. The bushing is really badly worn, I was going to try to fix it but when I took the pivot apart I dound that the bushing is built in to the pivot bar.

My local, hour away, schwinn dealer said he may be able to get the part but he would have to look at the bike first then order it and then install it himself. Since I don't want to be without my ride for a month and since the schwinn dealer is a jerk I'd rather not mess with him.

Seemingly the only negative result of the bad bushing was a really annoying squeak so I took it apart and greased up the pivot. Took it out the other day and it rode great.

I've been looking at getting another frame but I actually really like the way this one rides. I've been trying to find one of these pivot kits online without any luck, has anyone had this problem?

The rocket 88 is a 4-bar linkage. if you can afford a new frame then bet one. The newer versions will work much better. There are a lot for sale on ebay and every bike store (w/ mtb's) will have one (may not used though).

A full season of riding with a $40 bike is good. Now it is time to get a new one if you can afford it. Just look at the 4-bar linkage bikes since that is what you seem to want. Although some of the new single pivots work well with a shock such as a Swinger, 5th Element or Romic.
