Anyone know about these forks?

Hello all, These are in my (measly) budget for forks. Does anyone know if they have any type of damping? If so what type of damping. By the time they get to Australia they'll owe me about $175US/$230AU

Very slowly now. If they need a double crown to get 100 mm of travel they are either really old or complete crap. These fall in the latter catagory.

Yeah, but I already know that. The thing is the forks I have are even crappier. I'm also on a tight budget, I cant justify spending $450AU on a set of Marzocchis much as I would like to. I realise that a set of MX comps with eta would be immeasurably better than these but I cannot go there, end of story. So what I have to do is buy the best I can afford and these are a possibility. My current forks have 80mm travel and no damping at all, effectively the front end of my bike is a highly mobile pogo stick with all the control of a lemmings glee club on an outing to the beach. Any fork with damping would be an improvement. I could go second hand but then I'm buying someone else's worn out parts. Good forks second hand Z1/Z3's are still out of my range. I can see that once you are used to good equipment everything else looks second rate or at best a compromise but compromise is what I have to do given my semi-permanent budgetry constraints. So, do you actually know these forks from personal experience and do they have any damping?

Save your money. That's all I'm going to say. If you were to buy that thing you would have an undamped boat anchor on the front of your bike. What's with the Dual Crown obsession anyway? There are dozens of better single crown damped 100mm forks out there

I don't remember what you currently have, but if your bike came with a single crown it's all but assured that running a DC will void your warranty.

Bike came with RST Gila T5, SC, over sprung coils, no damping. And that with preload set to the minimum so that the caps dont get pushed out like the last one and me @ 240lb. Its not my favorite fork. The warranty thing is worth considering.

Mate, you can probably do better than that price and quality wise on ebay. Get a Paypal account if you don't already have one, and see if you can locate a seller willing to ship here. If they don't offer shipping to Australia, I send them an email and ask if they'll ship to me here. Doesn't hurt to ask, and so far most people have been pretty cool about it. Our prices suck, but I've gotten brand new forks, taken off '04 bikes for as little as US$40. Good luck.

Indeedidoo . I'm all set up for ebay and these are in fact from there. But the consensus seems to be that these are complete crapola and with that and your good fortune re forks in mind I'll give up on these and keep looking.

Cheers

XC, I'm 240 and falling steadily and these forks are at the limit of my budget. I have a sheet of Marzocchi data and types but the rest of the brands are a mystery. There are so many models that I dont really know what fork I'm looking at outside of Marzocchi which I mostly cant afford.

I would rather have your Single crown RST if your using it for XC..

I know it sounds harsh, but If you want a new fork that much, and are willing to buy this fork, which will comprimise your whole bike IMO, your much better saving up for an MX Comp or something along those lines..

yeh i agree the mx comp should be pretty good for you and you can find them for a decent price.
also ebay may have some in your price range or a bit more which you could save up for

Wouldn't the DC also raise the front end of the bike significantly, influencing geometry and handling?

You can make a short stack Dc. My slider 170mm is only slightly taller than my z150 All depends on how the fork is made.

I'd search online sites and look for a decent used 4-5" SC fork.

I don't think Marzocchi makes a bad fork. We're looking for a DJ with the QR20 for our tandem. If you let me know exactly what you're looking for, I can check with some contacts in the states. I may also be able to help with getting it shipped here, if the seller won't ship direct, as I have a US address as well.

Look for the old Marzocchi DCs with 150mm travel. Those are great forks and can be found for cheap.
