Built Me a New Bike! Time for a New Saddle and Pedals!

Build Phase...

New Bike! (well a new frame, stem, handle bars, grips, and donor components of my old bike)

Here she is! Nothing special parts-wise, mostly basic deore components (including crankset), with a Rockshock J1 fork. I'm still new to riding, but wasn't happy with my older frames lack of crotch space, plus I wanted to learn how to build a bike properly.

Now two things I need... I'm a heavy guy at 228lbs; and my butt still hurts after riding. I've tried a million seat positions, but couldn't find a comfortable one (butt pain starts after 5 miles, before that I'm perfectly comfortable). Currently I'm rocking a WTB Speed V from 06; the seat got good reviews online, plus it's cheap! I've heard people say that your butt will be sore for the few hundred miles if you're a new biker; butt soreness goes away after you've developed the right muscles and seat positions, but I don't know how true this is (only have 200 miles of seat time on my mountain bikes).

Second, I need some better pedals. My current ones are too small for my foot; and I've been thinking about going with good platforms or going big and buying some clipable kind. I like the idea of platforms because I know I wont break them, and I like the gained control you get with the clipable pedals, but I don't know if they're strong enough to support my weight...

Any suggestions on saving my butt? And how about the pedals, what should I look into?

Cheers!

I got used Shimano XTR SPD clipless pedals for like 30 dollars via ebay - saved myself a good hundred dollars or so and they work like magic

Can't help you with your saddle.

The saddle sucks - used them before and, for my ass, they're like sitting on a brick

Pedals support my 100kg++

Time atac Z and Z XX pedals. Large platform, double sided, easy to clip into, secure, reliable and a large SPD type cleat.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!
