Specialized Rockhopper Comp 06

I'm planning to get my first mnt bk, did some searches and came across a SECIALIZED ROCKHOPPER COMP 2006 edition.
I'm not too sure what type of riding i'll do, but live in Vancouver, so obviously would like to go to Whistler or else from time to time. Will Rockhopper handle it? But I'm not too much of a daredevil .
By the way, the owner says the bike has been ridden just once for a local trail and thats it. Price is $700, is it worth the $$?
Maybe I should look for smth else.

( sorry if the thread is in the wrong place, i'm new here )

This is one piece of nonsense you can ignore.

The model the OP is talking about is the Rockhopper Comp, which has an msrp of $770. In addition, the OP lives in Canada (read: CAD), meaning that the original buyer quite possibly could've payed well over $1000 for the Rockhopper.

That said, check the bike out. If it's in good condition, I think $600 would be fair.

EDIT: Forgot to include this, but I would advise against going to Whistler with that bike. Rent.

the seller said the lowest price to be 675 since the bike has been ridden once ( he stresses that very hard, so if its true, the bike is literally new).
But I did some read-up on the topic, so me "vision" of what i'd do sounds more like freeride ( probably a medium to light one)....that makes another question , whether i should go for a rockhopper at all?
the issue is my budget ( student life T_T) , i realized that with $700 in my pocket i'd have to go for a used one, but then you never know what you get.....
I"m totally messed up. any suggestions what I should look for?

( this topic might be going in some other direction now, sorry for that)

i would think going from not riding to freeride would be a big transition...especially since you are a self proclaimed non-daredevil... plus even used $700 for a FR is gonna be tough to find.

the rockhopper is nice. it was$770 new if it is rim brake $880 new for the disc model if it has discs $675 seems like an ok price. pretending 2 full years deprricates a bike only $100 for the normal model seems like the guy is just unrealistic about it, made a mistake buying a bike he won't use and wants damn near all his money back... not sure how much he paid, but the stores near me are normally a little less than MSRP already and he could have gontten it a year old from the store which would put it close to the price he is trying to sell it.

all in all a nice bike maybe worth it for the disc model, but for $675 you might be ablle to get a new 07 at the store.

thanx for great replies! you help a lot!!!

i checked, the store, the 07 ones go for $1050. so $675 should seem like a decent price for '06.

yet, with a Rockhopper, what exactly can I do?

The bike is designed for XC, meaning that while you can go launching off big stuff, you seriously risk hurting yourself and the bike.

I think the best thing for you to do right now is wait and save some more for a decent bike, but if you REALLY REALLY want a bike now, a suitable bike can only be found on the internet. On sites like Jenson and Rscycle, you can find some really good deals. Still, you'll need to stretch your budget. Some along the lines of this?
