Good Service from LBS or chronic Dart 3 fork problem?

I'm not an MTBer, but I am buying one for my son. He's picked out a Rockhopper after riding about 10 different models around that price point.

LBS had the right size and color, but same day (monday) I called to check availability and reserve for pickup that night, they called back 2 hours later to say "We just found out about this problem on Saturday and we're not letting anything with this fork out of the store without the repair, it'll be a few days." All to the good, its why we buy bikes at the LBS instead of the big box store or on-line.

The LBS is great, no desire to disrespect them or malign them, but in thinking about the wording of the message given to me,it sounds more like an epidemic on Dart 3 forks, yet,when I search here at BF and google and check also at another MTB forum, I don't find any current problem/recall issue on these forks. {edit start** the problem is that the fork travel doesn't fully lock out when you twist the mechanism to locked-out. {end edit**

Question for you is, is this a recurring problem? Is this fork problematic in general? Or is it just a fluke and everyone is doing the right thing. My son is moving out of BMX and it will likely be some time before he exercises that fork much, but this bike will need to last him awhile. Appreciate your comments and advice.

Have not heard anything about the Darts but I don't pay them any attention as a rule. Sounds like you've got a decent shop. Deal with the minor problem and move along. It always sucks to have to wait longer for something but iot's better than waiting for bones to heal or getting a few minutes of riding then waiting a week for a repair.
