Help with Custom Wheelbuild! Suggestions?

Well, I thought I was set on my wheelbuild but apparently not.

My info:
  • I'm 150lbs + gear.
  • XC riding
  • Fully rigid SS
  • Want to be able to run 2.1-2.5 Tires

I've decided so far on the following:
  • White Industries Disc Hubs
  • DT Competition Butted Spokes in Black
  • Silver Brass Nipples

Considering:
  • Mavic 717 Disc (395g)
  • DT Swiss XR 4.2D Disc Rim (400g)
  • Mavic 719 Disc (460g)
  • Syncros DP25 (514g)

Can the 717 Disc's or DT Swiss' handle a larger tire?

Your recommendation?

They could all handle larger tires, but I'd stick with a 2.3 or so for your rigid SS. You're a light lil guy so you won't need burly wheels, but I've been extremely happy with my Hope Pro II / EX5.1d / DT Comp setup. Best set I've ever had.

So my recommendation is the DT XR 4.2D setup.

Yeah...I'm thinking about getting a pair. I'm going to have to sell my bike to do it, but they'll look pretty on my wall.:D

Stans rims FTW.

I'm the same weight as you 150 and use 2.24's on my 717 rims without a problem.

I am 180 lbs and I have Mavic xc717 discs and they have held up fine. I've run up to 2.4 on them but they are a touch narrow for that. I'd recommend the mavic or DT swiss rim the syncros is good but too heavy and over kill for you.

great choice on the hubs and the spokes -DTcomps are great. Check out Hope Pro II hubs too they are great too.

Hope Pro II with DT Swiss 4.1D and DT spokes. Universal Cycles can do the build for you. They do nice work. Chain Reaction Cycles also build nice wheels, although you'll want to keep a close eye on their hub prices, as the non-euro components can be frighteningly expensive.

Hey...that's who built mine. +1 on the build quality. Those guys do a nice job.
