£1000 Hartail
Can anyone suggest a good 'all-rounder' hardtail for £1000, mainly trail riding, but occaisionaly down to Wales for some more rocky stuff.
I'm currently thinking Kona Kula Deluxe, but am worried that if I take this light bike too offroad, that the frame will not hold up?

thats 4 that i can think of off the top of my head and one that you had mentioned that IS over you budget, all depending on where you were thinking of buying it from, how much you were going to use it and also depending on what feels right for YOU

I ride a Kula deluxe and have a few impressions after riding it daily for the last couple of months.
This bike is devastatingly fast - it's very lightweight and the frame is balanced perfectly. Lift it up with two fingers and it wont dip in either direction. Everyone who has ever taken my kula for a ride has commented on it's ridiculously light and responsive feel.
Because of all that, it feels most comfortable on curvy dirt paths, roads, pavement, roads etc. The fork is definitely enough to take some large dips or smallish drops, but the bike remains very stiff and ridgid. You'll learn quickly that the kula deluxe was made for speed and not for cliffs. But you could probably do some small cliffs.
If you are using the bike for any kind of commute and/or xc and like going really fast, it's a great choice. Sexy paintjob, too.

What year is your Deluxe? I have an 05 that is the Love of my Life. I am a Neub, but can tell by my love of machinery in general that it is a great piece.

kona is nice, theres alot of really nice hardtails in that range. titus, yeti, ellsworth, trek's, specialized stumpjumper. in that range your options are pretty good. I would go test some and see what feels best although I am a specialized fan. good luck

Almost all the Rockhoppers are in that price range, You could probably find a last years stumpy pretty soon. Some of the Marin's are really nice like the wildcat trail. There are some nice trek's in that price range also. Good choices all around but I'm a specialized man

Stumpjumper all the way. A stumpjumper comp retails for around $1600 or so and is everything you could want in a hardtail. Fox Fork, Juicy 5's, DT-Swiss Rims, SRAM X9. I absolutly love mine. I've had it for a year now and its has stood up to everything a quality hardtail should. I've named her Glenda and she's my pride and joy
