Does anyone else have this problem. The sign on the door says that they should be open today. But there is no one to be seen. This has happened more then once at the bike shop in my town. Luckily he is the only bike shop in this town. Or no one would ever go there. Not reliable. The one in Concord (the capital of NH) is always open and there are multipul people working at a time. But its a bigger shop and a simple tune up takes 3-4 days. I rely on the LBS to show up to work when suppose to. I know poeple go away and have other things to do. But he's the only guy who works there.

Maybe if he took an unannouced vacation or something but he just got back from Italy (Kona correct me if i'm wrong) He was gone for 5 days and said he'd reopen on last Thursday. Kona told me he never showed up last Friday and I was down there to order my new fork on Saturday. During the hours posted and he didn't show. I might just go buy online.

He gives me sh*t about buying my Haro else where but thats what he gets for not showing. I might give him one more chance. If he doesn't show i'm buying from beyondbikes.com They are the only place that sells the '05 Kingpin. (I think Jenson does but they don't even have a pic of it on there site...)

Anyone else have troubles like this?

(Sorry for the lenght. I had a lot to rant about)

Not much you can do I guess, except take your business elsewhere. It's a good argument for buying your own bike tools and buying online. I did that for years before finding a decent bikeshop that I trust. These days, the only way an LBS can survive is by offering the only things that mail order companies cant, a quick fix, and good service. Sounds like your LBS has neither.

Once that happened when I went to Performance. Actually, it wasn't quite the same thing- the manager forgot the keys and lived pretty far, and the other dude with the keys was incognito... so they had to call a third person who lived pretty far and the third dude came in. We all just stood around and chatted and just stayed pretty laid back. I showed up about 20 minutes before the store opened, and they didn't open for about an hour and a half, so that part wasn't fun, but it was nice to chat with the folks who worked there for once and trade up stories about cycling and stuff.

It would suck, though, if everyone was just MIA. I wouldn't be inclined to return either, and if the owner gave me flack about getting my bike or parts from someplace else, I'd tell them next time, if they show up, you'd consider giving them your business, but when they're gone, it's every man for himself.

Jenson does have it..order if from there, much more reliable than him. Hes a nice guy, but I dont trust him with my bike.......I can do better work than him. There are 2 shops that I really like in NH, Red Jersey in Bartlett/Conway, and Souhegan Cycleworks in Milford. SnW is nice, but they take way too long to do such simple things. Ive bought both my bikes at SC, the guys are knowledgable, and tends to really help me out. Looking to add that to my list of sponsors for next year

I'm going to second the suggestion to order it from JensonUSA. They have a picture of the Kingpin as part of the search result but not when you click on the specific item. My guess is that they haven't had time to pose it for the glamour shot yet. I've had the best luck with JensonUSA over any other online dealer. I've also recently started using Texas Cyclesport too. It sounds like your LBS is a pain to deal with. I'm all for supporting the LBS but if they don't reciprocate then it's their loss. It seems like you want to give them your business but they aren't very accommodating.

khuon, I think somebody else finally figured out why I dont go there. The only reason I go there is because he tends to hook me up with stuff. I dont always miss him not being there though, he has some hot girls working in his spot

I second that.

But about Jensonusa.com It says the Kingpin is "On Order" which means they have ordered it but there is no date of delivery to there factory. Where as beyondbikes.com has them in stock.

Chances are, if your order through your shop, you will be paying quite a bit more. Its good to support your LBS, but if their dicks about you buying a bike there, just buy it online. Use the saved money to get it installed or something.

So the Kingpin doesn't have that problem. It onyl says between 80 and 150 mm forks. The kingpin in 170mm. I'm still skeptical.

Dude, you need to take your bike to S&W Sports in Concord.

There are several classes of bike shops in my experience, and it only pays to deal with the best.

Well I would but its a hassle because I can't drive yet. Thats where I got my bike but their tune ups take a really long time. Once, if took them 4 days just to replace pads on my bike. I went there about the fork thing and they helped me. No i'm not sure what to do. Call up some bike shops or call manitou directly and wask about the fork.

Nobody wants to be without their bike.

There are 2 bike shops in the same town....

One will try to do anything while you wait because they were sitting there doing nothing until you walked in anyway.

The other has work scheduled a week out, yet people are still willing to leave their bikes with this shop (or there wouldn't be a back-log, would there?).

Price being equal (or at least close), Which do you suppose does the higher quality work?
