'94 sworks dualy suspension
recently inherited a 94 sworks dually. it has been setup w/ 96 components. looking to try and get my but in the woods. got some concerns. ohh yeah i am pushin 245 and donater was probably 180 soaking wet.
1) keep blowing spokes- looks like the aluminum nipples are corroded and that is where they are snapping. rims look like in good shape and they have ringle hubs. should i just re lace the wheels ? any spoke preferences? 2) suspension.. has carbon legged judy cartridge forks and i think stock fox rear shock. any suggestions.. looking to rehad them if i can. thanks. |

If yes, ride it until you decide if you like MTB riding or not. If yes, continue to ride until you are ready to buy a new bike. |
rutnick-
awesome.. relace it is.. what about suspension.. now anything about that. went for a ride yesterday.. busted 2 spokes and the rear suspension looks like it is leaking fresh fluids. |

i can sink some money into it.. but don't want to drop a ton. My big problem right now is the rear shock. I can relace the rims. give me something to do while i am enjoy my DALES Pale ALE. and i can swap out the forks relativly cheap to get me going.
but the rear shock!!! hmm.. push will not rebuild. .but i was wondering about replacing with a new one. i see there are some out there for 325.. so i think it would be worth to sink $500 into it and make it ridable. it would be cheaper than a new bike. or am i sniffing paint fumes. |

You could probably sell it to a vintage bike collector and come up with some $ to put toward a more modern bike. PM with size and condition.
|
can't sell it but it is in great shape execpt for the suspension front and rear. and the spkes need relacing.. but full xt componets has specialized crank w/ some new rings.. " engagement ring " is name on the front ring. race tech brake levers. xt v- brakes

I would NOT put $500 into that bike.
Someone else may, but not me. |
If it was free to begin with, I'd put $500 into that bike all day long.
OP, why do you think you need a new shock? |
bike was 100% free. rear shock is leaking oil when i come back from my ride and the fronts are soft.. but i will probably lace of the wheels get that together and then ride it till it doesn't absorb anything then think about life for a bit.
i came up w/ $500 because looks like i could get a new front fork and a rear shock rebuilt( can't find anyone to touch it) or even a new rear shock if i could find one w/ the same length as stock. and have a pretty light decent dually for $500. just bought the 1500 road bike so i am tapped. |
