Trail Building Tips

I am going to try and make a new trail through some woods in my area, but need some tips on how to go about it. Moving trees and rocks are self explanatory, but what should be done to create an actual path? I dont really have any access to a dirt bike or four wheeler...

The IMBA guide is awesome. I'm reading the "Guide to Sweet Singletrack" right now. Thinking back to sweet trails I've been on in the past, they really do adhere to the IMBA principles, whether it was intentional or not.

OP: Where are you located? Is there an IMBA group near you? Try to find out who maintains your local trails, and hook up with them.
