Whoaaaaaaaaaa dude.. that sounds like a really bad idea. I don't use "grease" on my bike at all because grease is the ultimate attractant of dirt. You know there are tons of specific lubes designed to repel dirt but stick to components, right? I don't think using grease is a good idea. Shimano makes some grease that works great and that's what I use. It's neon green and comes in a tube.

I'm sure there are many of us who did as well!

I was fortunate enough to have learned early (age 12), and have been riding quality bikes since.

My last "cheap" bike was a Huffy Pro Concept III BMX bike. It was THE bike to have in sixth grade. White with Red pads and decals.

First off, it's cool that you're paying attention to greasing bearings, and GREASE is indeed what bearings get (unless they're ceramic ball, which get oil, but which you won't have).

Second, grease that lasts "two weeks" hasn't had time to perform but let me suggest that you look to greases which have been "engineered" for bicycle applications, where you want some water resistance, high lubricity and relatively low viscosity. Check out Phil Wood's green "waterproof grease", a classic and excellent product proven over many years, and Finish Line teflon loaded grease --another good, proven product for bearings.

Third, someone above spoke against grease, and hopefully meant that grease isn't appropriate on things like your CHAIN. Dead right. Use chain lube on your chain, not grease or heavy oil.

What exactly do you mean when you say your grease "breaks down"?

Why exactly would you not use grease on your bike?

And what exactly is "waterproof grease"? I cannot think of any grease that isn't waterproof.
