Minnesotan Races. Will this hold up for a little racing?

So I might be doing my first MTB races this summer but my passion is road. I find MTB not as fun (don't kill me) but I'm interested. I don't ride much so I'm wondering how much experience I'd need beforehand. I've done a lot of road races, but I understand MTB is completely different. Oh yeah, and I don't really have a nice MTB for racing. No disk breaks, in fact, it's old and was the cheapest front suspension Giant. Here it is,

Will it hold up for racing?
