Cheaper than a full tank of fuel in that Duramax? Any idea how old the bike is? I couldn't find a RTS2 on Bikepedia newer than 1996, it was a $1600 bike then. Certainly not a cheap bike in 1996 dollars.

I really have no clue to the age... it has had a lot of updates on parts from what I was told... frankly I have been out of the game so long I wouldnt know either way... but my friend is entertaining doing a swap for a kayak setup I have...

You arent kidding though in Duramax $$$s...LOL I have the small tank... about $130 a fill up...

That aluminum rear triangle debuted on the RTS Team in the second year of RTS production - 1995 maybe? Since it's on a RTS-2, I would guess it's a frame from late in the model run, probably right around the time when they came out with LTS.

It's worth exactly as much as you can talk him out of in the trade. More if you can talk him into keeping that loudass Mr. Crud chain tensioner.

I can't imagine a bike that old having equal value to a kayak. I'm no expert though.

Same here. That bike is basically 13 years old or so although it was a high end bike. Couple hundred bucks to me. Really depends on what the trade stuff on your side is worth.

Well the kayak is a lower end Perception... I figure new I had about $750 invested... it sounds like a good deal to me since I dont use the kayak at all...

the rts-2 was the lower of gt's line just like the lts-1 is best 2 is second and so on

from the decals and the triangle as well as the brakes I would say 94' if I recall they went with v-brakes after 95'

it is still a classic refer to these old gt catalogs for assistance

That is NOT worth the value of a used kayak. 6-pack of PBR and a helmet, yes.

I had an LTS2 that was a 1996 as I recall, maybe 1997. LTS2 replaced the RTS and was in parallel for a year to two. The 2 series of each were similarly spec'd - like LX everything with an XT RD.
My LTS2 was about $1800.

I sold it 2 years ago in insanely good condition (original tires still had the rubber nipple things sticking off of it)(yeah, I was a fat poser when I bought it and I sold it to help pay for my first road bike)
I sold it for $425.

Wow i havent seen a RTS since I broke mine. Loved the RTS, its a classic. I had one back in 1992 or 1995. I upgraded everything and took it to Plattekill in Roxbury NY. The park had just opened up and if had a trail that came down the face of the mountain. 5 minutes on a ski lift to go up and less then a m I nite to come down. I clocked in at 71mph. We topped the pro by 10mph. They gave me a patch. Me and my collided after he hit the brakes in front t of me at 55mph. I put that bike through serious abuse. Great bike. I ended up cracking the frame from dirt jumping. Wish I still had it.
