alternate tools

any suggestions for and alternate tool for removing the crown race other than an actual crown race removal tool? seeing as i dont have the $100+ to drop on a tool that i will only use once.

Ball joint separator ("pickle fork") - - if you have any that large.

Bearing separator would work well too.



$18.99 at Harbor Freight (https://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3979). A dead ringer for some crown race tools.

(Personally, I've always used the gastro-method though)

But you'd need a light touch not to snip your steer tube.

im not to worried about the steertube, its broke off at the crown from when i ran into my garage with the bike still mounted to the roof rack.

Heres what you do. Get a razor blade and a hammer and hit the razor under the race until it comes up a little bit then do it on another section of the race to even it out and eventually after doing that little bit by bit, you'll be able to pry it off with a flathead. That is the least destructive method I know of without using the race removal tool.

its a cane creek 1.5 a headset with a fsa fat pig reducer. the gastro method worked perfectly. thanks much.
