NOTUBES-yea or nay

does anyone here use the notubes system and how do you like it?is it as good as i hear and read?i have yet to hear one bad thing that is the fault of the system.why is it not more popular or is it just too new.am getting some and just want opinions and advice on it.was told that if it starts to gum up squirt a little water and its like new again.its my 40th b-day present from my wife and i am excited to get it.i guess she is tired of me cussing while fixing flats so much (briars suck)anyway thanks in advance for the opinions advice etc.by the way to yall who helped with the stem and bars question, the new combo of med.stem and2"rise has worked great

no opinion here, well yes, I do have an opinion, but will not say I really just want to subscribe to this thread so I can follow the verbal fist fight that always seems to break out when somebody brings this up

I use the Notubes system. I have had very good luck with it, better than I had with my UST wheels even. It's better than Goo or Slime and much lighter too. I went from 5lb wheels to 3lb wheels (WTB Weirwolfs)by getting rid or the thorn resistant tubes with slime. I live in AZ and constantly got flats from cactus (no more). The down side is that it is a bit difficult to mount the tire if you don't know how. Use lots of soapy water and it mounts just fine. Another down is that you need to add sealant about every 6 months. Be sure to get the rim strios that fit your rim for a good seal.

it is the way to go
have it on both my mountain bikes

Yay for me although I don't use it.

I HAD it on my wheelset until I bought some crossmax's. It works but its a pain if you ever get a flat and have to put a tube in. You have to remove the rim tape and you get all that stans sauce all over you. Make sure to carry a baggy to put it in because it is hard to get out of your clothes.

Yea, if the price gouging will stop. Wheelsets & especially tires are ridiculously over-priced for tubeless...

Been there, done that..... So I vote NAY !

BlackDiamond 01-17-04 10:29 PM

I would do it if, you don't change tires all the time. The stuff works pretty damn good. It seems to work best on non-tubless (UST) rims and tires. If you change your tires all the time then it will be a messy pain.

I think the improved ride is worth it. Not to mention flats will become almost a thing of the past. ;)

Somebody posted this on the last notubes thread, I wish I could take credit. Take a look, it's a riot:

yestubes

Make sure you look at the "Tricycle hop-up kit"

Tu-be or not Tu-be

I've been riding YESTUBES since the late 50's. No mess.

But when it comes to current audio equipment, it's Notubes......I can't afford tubed components. I'll stick to integrated circuitry.

I run tubeless and love it. I use the Stan's fluid sometimes as well... good system. I vote yes if you can't afford or dont want to switch to tubeless wheels.

Got My Notubes And Put The Stuff In And On.have Ridden In Some Stuff That Before Would Either Pop A Tube Or I Did Not Have Enough Traction To Get Thru(horses Have Really Mucked Up Some Trails I Ride). It Has Been Real Muddy Here Also So Long Stretches Of Trail Uphill Or Flat Have Some Pretty Nasty Places In Them That Before I Would Have To Walk Around Or Thru Due To Depth Of Footprints In Them But Today I Was Like A Boat And Just Went Over Or Thru Without Getting Stuck Or Losing Traction To The Point Of Having To Walk Thru Rest Of It. They Made A Farting Sound A Couple Of Times On The Back But No Noticable Loss Of Pressure.the Grip On My Favorite Climbs Was As Never Before On This Bike.did Not Want To Go Too Fast Downhill(not A Prob In Mud) And Hit Some Spots At 20mph+ And By The Time I Got Thru Horse Sh%* I Was At Less Than 5 Mph In Only A Couple Dozen Yards And The Tires Were Very Reliable.hit Some Rocks And Briars Just To See And They Passed Very Welli Have The Trailblaster Sun Ds-2 Combo And Tried Offcamber Stuff Too Without A Problem.
My Confidence In Riding Some Hairy Stuff Has Been Uplifted Greatly And Cant Wait Till The Trails Around Here Dry Out Enough So I Dont Have To Pedal Down Small Decents As Well As Uphill.i Definitley Like This Stuff And Have Put Over 30 Miles Of The Worst Stuff I Can Find Like Hitting Roots And Rocks At Odd Angles Or Hitting A Log With The Back Tire Hard (oops Did Not Bunnyhop It Right) And Crashing The Front Tire When I Hit The Ground At Funny Angle.broke A Link On A Climb Or I Would Have Put On More Miles.my Lungs Love This Stuff Too Due To Better Traction And Control So I Can Hit Stuff Faster And Less Pedaling Back Up.sent A Good Review To Mtb Review Too.thanks For All The Feedback Before, this Is A Great Forum

I Got This Stuff For The The Flat Elimination And Thought How Can Some Goo Help My Ride But It Really Does.i Have Not Lowered My Psi But Seem To Have Better Traction All Over.like I Said Before I Was Like A Boat Going Thru Some Spots That Horses Really Did A Number On.i Have No Idea Why It Has Improved My Riding But It Has.i Did Some Stuff Today And Yesterday Just To Try To Make The Stuff Fail(mtb Reviewers Said Panaracers Did Not Work Too Well)yes I Am Happy With This Stuff, this Forum And The People On It

BlackDiamond 02-15-04 09:19 PM

I got my kit. I have not put it on yet. Gotta wait until I get my cast off.

I'm running Stans. Works great. They air up on my Mavic 223s just fine with only a floor pump. A bit messy till they seal, but I love the feel. Running them with Specialized Pro Enduro tires. Not a flat on them so far. (Which is good, cause it's gonna suck if I get one...)
