Questions about getting Road Tires for my MTB
Hello all, I'm new to replacing tires but I've got a 26" MTB and since I ride it on the street most of the time I'm thinking about switching the tires to road tires. Does anyone have any suggestions and links? Do I need to switch the tubes also? Is there anything else I should change or can change to make it more of a Road bike or I guess it's called a hybrid? sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology. Thanks for your help!

Hey, I'm new as well and in the same predicament as you. I am planning on getting these:

I haven't ordered them seeing as I am leaving the country in a matter of days so there wouldn't be enough time to get them before I go. I'm pretty sure you just need tubes that match the tire. I'm using these tires on my bike and getting clipless pedals soon because of late I haven't been able to ride on the trails and use my bike as a commuter for the most part. Hope I helped!

I have a spec hardrock mtb that I just swapped Specialized nimbus tires on it. Made a big difference. Made the bike 2-3 mph faster than the knobbies. You will have to change tube. The tires I put on are 26x 1.5 the stock tire was 26x2, the stock tube was too big. Just buy tubes the same size as the new tires. Makes the bike look totally different also w road tires.

Yeah well it is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a road bike, tard...
I have been thinking about it as well but I'll probably get an extra set of rims so I change back when I go offroad.
It makes perfect sense for someone who wants a do it all bike, and not multiple bikes.

Schwalbe Big Apple. They're available in 2.0" and 2.3" varieties.
An MTB with slicks is not a road bike. It's an urban assault bike and you should be prepared for the role. Higher volume means you need less pressure to achieve comparable rolling and flat resistance. The apples roll fast and are tough like crazy.
Added bonus, higher volume increases your gear effective gear ration. This is good if you're riding on the road with an MTB. It also decreases rolling resistance.
Skip the weenie hybrid bike tires. Go for the Apples!!!

Hmmm . . . road tires on an MTB . . . H-rated or V-rated?
In the winter, I like to switch to Nokian Hakkapelitta RSIs.

If the mtn bike has front and rear disc brakes, it's easy enough to have a second 700C road wheelset built up with disc hubs. I built up Mavic Open Pro rims to Hope Pro II hubs. Schweet!
