Raceable FSXC Frame

How you guys doing? I've been away from the site for a while, but I haven't forgot about it. On to the question....

I currently have a rec hard tail and a rec road bike, Giant Rainier and Giant OCR3, and I've been looking to go to a race FSXC within the year (I do race at the sport level), My hopes were set on a 2004 Giant NRS 1 or 2 before the line came out, but I'm rather disappointed at the offerings. I just can't bring myself to like the look of the team blue or red frames (I know this shouldn't matter, but if I shutter when I see my bike, I can't see myself riding it a lot). Now I'm pretty set on what components I want, (Sram X.9 drivetrain, RaceFace crank, Easton bars, stem and seatpost....) so I'm thinking about building the bike myself. I've been searching eBay for a 2003 NRS 1 frame in small, but no luck so far. Are there other frames I should consider? Looking for about 3 inches of rear travel and nothing with the letters FSR on it (It didn't feel as good as the NRS). In my search I came across the Bianchi Ibex, which I like the look of but can't find a lot of info on it, anybody out there have one?

Depending on what your budget is, I would say get the new Intense Spider XVP.
I have ridden the VPP bikes and they work great. The NRS is a good bike as well as the Trek Fuel, Santa Cruz Blur (the Intense Spider is based on this bike) or Superlight.

Spider XVP, Yeti ASR, Tomac Revolver Ti, plus I'm starting to see alot riding Blur's with the intentions to race them. Those would be my own choices, in that order as well.

Again, what's your budget, that will be the deciding factor. The Spider frame and shock alone will set you back $2000, a bit less for the rest listed. I priced a Blur anodized frame the other day for $1300 with the Fox shock.

if you didnt like the feel of the FSR you're probably looking for a super-firm pedaling bike. In that case the VPP bikes with a stable platform(ugh)shock would probably be as close to the firmness of your NRS as you can get

What you need is a 2002 Rocky Mountain Instinct.

Don't get an RM FS bike...linkage design sucks and they're overpriced for what they are.

You couldent be more wrong. I'd put the 3d link over the horst link, for xc.

I am asking $1200, but I will go lower.

RM bikes are somewhat overpriced retail, but the 3D link is super efficient compared to the horst link IMHO

everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think that RM are great but definetly over priced

Check out the Titus RacerX and Ellsworth Truth. The RacerX sprints awesome and corners well. On the downside I have found the rear will wander in turns at high speed over rough stutter bumps. The Truth will handle these corners better and is a better climber but sprints less efficiently. Big $$$, sure, but you get what you pay for. Just some more aluminum for thought.
