VPP versus PVP suspension system
 

After many years on road bike i'm now looking for an MtB FS xc/trail but as you know it's hard to find out the "one". I'm not a racer any more (i reach 90kg:innocent:) but i like to climb light (as ex road bike rider) and ride confy going down hill safetely.
step by step i'm first looking for the frame best susp. sistem but reading this comment confused my ideas

the following bikes catch my atention and i read lots of reviews about all but now i'm more confused now:crash:
gt marathon pro
scott spark-genius
specy epic fsr-stumpj fsr-enduro sl
xtension xeliteII

i would like your opinion on pro and cons about the bikes above just to choose the "one" best fit for me

Has it ever crossed your mind that an article by the sole maker of the "PVP" suspension design may not be the objective source?

More can be learned in a test ride than can be gained from reading Internet Oppinions. :)

I like the GT's design, The Flexbone looks scetchy but I would love to try one for a few days.
I have beat the hell out of an Epic for a couple years, and just love the bike.
The Scott Spark is the only short travel bike on my short list of next bikes.
I'm from the school of "if one is good for you, two has got to be better."
I would match that frame with a platform shock, and be one of the nameless rabble in the evolution of suspension, that they are trying to leave behind.

Xtension appears to be just another marketer of goods put out by one of the 'catalog' frame makers in Taiwan, like HiBike or Kinesis or someone. Yawn.

Out of your list, the SJ FSR seems to be the all rounder. Might not climb as quick as an epic, but it'll be more entertaining on the slopes.
But then, as an ex roadie, you might prefer something like the Epic or the Scott.
Kinda depends on what kind of trails you're gonna be riding too.

me too i like :love: the gt design but specy seams match better my needs.

actually i'm focusing on stumpj better than the epic 'couse of my 90 kg to take care... don't want epic frame broke under my kilos :cry: what about the shocks... fox or specy home made? does latest brain sistem works good?

Latest spec shocks and brain seem to be well sorted compared to previous generations. They say that every year of course, but user reviews seem to be pretty unanimous.

I would agree with looking at a Stumpjumper, but not for the reasons that you are avoiding the Epic. Even XC bikes aren't fragile, perhaps unlike what you've been led to believe.

Another thing to consider, this is your first mountain bike, so you should buy a complete. Until you figure out what you like in components and what you want to spend money on, all you're going to do in a build is flood the forum with questions of personal preference, which no one wants to answer, quite frankly.

I agree. Rock an S-Works and be done.

Okay, I have a question. After looking at the pictures some more, it looks like the Xtension is VERY similar to the FSR design:

They both have a pivot on the chainstay in front of the dropout.

Except that the front is more reinforced Y-bike shaped. It is actually very much like the Da Bomb Projectile or the Azonic Eliminator, which were made for Da Bomb and Azonic respectively by Hi-Bike.

Yes, it's a Horst Link rear and yes, they did pay the licensing to Specialized as far as I know.

i don't want to be boring.... but you know how it works choosing a bike so i'm asking you what to compare from trek and cannondale to the specy stumpjumper just to have a full view...

I pedal my DH bike up hills all of the time. I don't always do it swifty but I eventually get to the top and the payoff.
