sram x5 shifter greasing

alrighty guys, my x5,s are really stiff to push against when going up gears. can i take the top cover off and lube them or will loads of springs come shooting out at me like its world war 3?


ps yes the front and rear deralleurs are lubed and smooth

shouldnt be loads of springs.
take the cover off, and it gives you access to the cable and stuff.
nothing should come flying out

It's just as likely the cables and housing as it is the shifters. Try squirting some tri flow on the parts of the cables that are in the housing first.

On my X9 shifter I can just unscrew the top plate/cover via a little 4-pronged dealie (technical term) to service it, but I have no idea about X5.

you can take them apart and service them, triflow works, x5's are notorious for being stiff.
