so true,
Attachment 82238 The sweet ride Attachment 82237 the messed up crank Plus it only has six gears that word unless you use your hand to change the gears, but then the chain will pop off. This bike could beat a trek anyday except days that end in a Y:roflmao2: |
ok so i took a trip down to my local bike shop and they said the trek 3900 runs around the price of $450, and i was just wondering if that was about the average price you can get them for?
|
that seems a bit high to me seeing as that is more than trek suggests the bike should be sold for (I have yet to find a bike in any of my area bike shops that is within 40$ of MSRP). Look for something from 08 on close out.
|
I bought my trek 3900 for 399 including tax......
450.00 is more of a price of a 4300-4500. you should haggle them with it, say you know that a 3900 shouldnt be over 400. I know for a fact, you'll notice a difference bewteen the way your schwinn feels and the way a new bike feels. It will be smoother. I can tell the difference between my trek and a wall-world bike anyday |
oh wait sorry i got me numbers mixed up cause he did say the 3900 ran around 400 sorry about that. I hate to admit it but those bikes looked pretty sweet.

I'd recommend you settle for no less than the 4300.
the 3900 is ok for starters, but the 4300 has more room for upgrades (rear disk mounts) and a better frame. |

I personally don't like them. Kinda seem like the bike equivalent to designer jeans to me. But thats just my useless opinion. . .

Why limit yourself to Trek? If it's a Trek dealer, they have Fisher too, who will offer a bunch of entry level bikes with a longer top tube (G2). Keep an eye out for a Fisher Tarpon or Advance, or possibly an '08 discounted Wahoo or Marlin. It might end up fitting you better. Specialized and Giant will have bikes in that price range too (Spec Hardrock or '08 Rockhopper, and Giant Boulder, Rincon, or '08 Yukon). At that price point, there won't be much difference going from one of those big name bikes to the other, so you may as well try them all out and see what fits the best. Or check Craigslist...you might be able to find a 2-3 year old hardtail with an LX or XT level groupset for that price.

Yes it seems the fishers have a more agressive feel.

You are correct, the bike doesn't make the biker. But a ****ty bike is a ****ty bike. Schwinn used to make some decent rides. If you are comparing yours to a Next or Mongoose, though, I doubt you are riding anything that great.

a crappy bike is a crappy bike no matter what you do to it.
like my 3900, i can put all the Thomson and higher end stuff I want on it.... its still a 3900. |
