Would I die if. . .

. . . I put a 130mm travel fork on my C'dale F5? Well, not die, but how much would it screw up my geometry? I want something with longer travel so that if I ever get the Komodo frame I've been eyeing, I can just swap out all parts and make a Komofodale 5 (get it Cannondale F5 combined with *edit* Komodo *edit*). Thanks!

Cannondale F5 combined with Cannondale would be CannondaleF5Cannondale, wouldn't it?

Yes you will die. The bike will snap in a million pieces.

One can only hope for some cool video of the catastrophic failure.

I'm not too concerned about that. . . because I hear that there is some old dude who replaced an 80mm fork with a 145mm fork.

I'm more concerned about doing a wheelie up every hill I try to climb.

If I'm going to die that way, I can only hope for a vid.

I had an f3 which has a headshock like the f4 which is the same frame as the f5. The headshock axle to crown measures within 3mm of the fox f120, so that is a direct swap so a 130 wouln't be too insane however i wouldn't recomend it

what you could do is get somthin with travel adjust like the talas, rock shox and marz both make travel adjustable forks, the talas does 100, 120 and 140mm travel, so just crank it down to 100 for your f5, new frame, just change the travel

From the sounds of things...you should look into a U-turn fork.

Tora, PIKE, Revelation
Fox Talas

You can run it at 4" until you get your new frame.

Tora's are cheap and pretty nice. I think it's the unsung hero of the blue collar MTB world. If you can find a '05--'06 Fox Vanilla for sale, they are internally convertible to 4" and mine was pretty nice. If you got coin...go for the PIKE though.

I run a fox 140mm on my old cannondale f1000 from 1998 and it rides very sweet

You will get a slacker head angle with a longer fork and that is good. It will allow you to haul more ass.

+1. I have the recon u-turn and it's a nice fork; 4.5 lbs, lots of travel, fairly stiff.

The only problem being that there is no way I can afford any of those (even the tora) because I've just decided to get the frame ( :) ). So this whole topic is now useless. Thanks for the responses though.

What are you going to do for a fork then?

ca7erham 10-10-08 02:39 PM

Not sure. I think a local guy has a (I think) Manitou Axel for cheap.
